A Message from MCPSRA President Bill Gregory concerning changes to Cigna Insurance Coverage:

Dear Fellow MCPSRA Members,

MCPS has scheduled Preferred Care Management Town Hall Meetings during the month of October for retirees choosing Cigna. The purpose of these meetings is to highlight the changes in Cigna for retirees and active employees.  The dates and times are posted on the MCPS website on the Employee and Retiree Service Center (ERSC) page: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/ersc/. Once you get to that page, click on Open Enrollment under Retirees for dates, location and time. You will be able to attend the meeting in person or join it using Microsoft Teams. I copied this information from the website. By clicking on “Join the meeting now,” you will be directed to the town hall meeting online. See the following pages.

In addition to the town hall meetings, MCPS offers individual virtual assistance from October 6 – 31 and will have Open Enrollment Benefit Fairs. I encourage you to take a moment to look at this information on the website. The website has a lot of information you will find helpful.

MCPS retirees who are already on Medicare and have Cigna Indemnity as their supplemental plan will not participate in Preferred Care Management because Medicare is the primary insurance and doctors follow the rules of Medicare. Cigna is the secondary insurance.

Retirees who are enrolled in the HMO plan, Cigna Open Access Plus In-Network (OAPIN), will be enrolled in the Preferred Care Management automatically unless the plan without Preferred Care Management is chosen during Open Enrollment.

I know there can be a lot of confusion when things change. I hope this information is helpful and I encourage you to review the website and attend a meeting, either in person or virtually.

Sincerely,

Bill Gregory

MCPSRA President

Why join MCPSRA?

Once you retire, you are no longer represented by MCAAP, SIEU 500, or MCEA.  Join MCPSRA and MRSPA to protect your pension and benefits.

MRSPA  has been advocating to protect and enhance your Maryland State pension as its primary focus for 80 years. This important work continues for all Maryland retired school personnel, regardless of their location in retirement.

MCPSRA is the only organization recognized by the MCPS Board of Education to advocate for retirees, including issues surrounding health benefits.

In addition, both organizations offer opportunities to serve the community and connect with other retirees.

Join online on the MRSPA website or print and mail  the Membership Application and Brochure
