Update: County Council Vote on Bill 28-24
On Tuesday, March 17, the Montgomery County Council unanimously voted to support a set of amendments to change the way that the Board of Investment Trust and the Consolidated Retiree Health Benefit Trust (CRHBT) select the actuary, establish actuarial assumptions, and hire and supervise the executive director.
MCPSRA opposed the Council amendments and supported the amendments recently proposed by the Montgomery County Executive, which generally maintained current practices. While we are disappointed in this outcome, we know that your advocacy had an impact as the council president noted the large number of messages and letters they received.
We do not anticipate any immediate impacts on the health care trust fund. We are committed to monitoring implementation of these operational changes as they are enacted. There are three Montgomery County Public Schools representatives on CRHBT, including a retiree who is a member of MCPSRA.

The MCPS Retirees Association (MCPSRA) is a non-profit organization created by and composed of retirees from the Montgomery County Public Schools. It advocates for retiree benefits and provides valuable services to its members, including a timely newsletter, luncheons, travel and volunteer opportunities within the association and in the community. MCPSRA is dedicated to pursuing excellence in education for young people through its Toolkits Project and providing scholarships to current MCPS employees who wish to further their educations.
