Goals
The Wootton High School World Languages Department is committed to preparing students to communicate confidently and effectively in languages other than English while developing an appreciation for diverse cultures and perspectives. Our program promotes meaningful communication, cultural understanding, and global awareness, empowering students to become active participants in an increasingly interconnected world.
Through engaging, proficiency-based instruction, students build their skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while exploring the traditions, perspectives, and contributions of communities around the world. We strive to foster curiosity, critical thinking, and intercultural competence that extend beyond the classroom and prepare students for college, careers, and lifelong learning.
The Maryland Seal of Biliteracy
The Maryland Seal of Biliteracy is an award given by participating school systems that recognizes a student’s high level of proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing in English and one or more languages. Every student with dedication and guidance can earn their seal of biliteracy and graduate with a broad knowledge of culture and become an open-minded individual who respects and values each person's identity.
