Finalists Selected for Student Member of the Board of Education
Leul Dawit, a sophomore at Northwood High School, and Reemey Ghermay, a junior at Walter Johnson High School, are the finalists for the 49th Student Member of the Board of Education (SMOB). Elections will be held on Wednesday, Apr. 22. All secondary students are eligible to vote.
From a pool of eight students, Dawit and Ghermay were elected by more than 400 voting middle and high school delegates who attended the SMOB Nominating Convention at Watkins Mill High School on Feb. 11.
Dawit serves as a Field Organization Deputy for MoCo for Change, a certified workshop presenter for the Maryland Association of Student Councils and Environmental Education Deputy for Eco MoCo. He also serves as a Student F.A.I.R. Student Leadership Coordinator and a Historian for the Montgomery County Regional Student Government Association.
Ghermay is currently serving as the President of the Walter Johnson High School Class of 2027, a SMOB Advisory Council’s Boundary Deputy and a Legislative Affairs Deputy for the Montgomery County Regional Student Government Association. She previously served as the Montgomery County Junior Council Vice President.
