Changes are coming to this year’s summer school programs.

MCPS will implement a four-day week (8 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Monday–Thursday) to provide consistency for families, maximize instructional time and allow Friday for planning, professional learning, curriculum setup and transportation adjustments.

High School Programs: There will be six regional high school sites. Students will have access to in-person and limited virtual credit-bearing courses. There will be two sessions: July 7–July 21 and July 23–Aug. 6. There will be a fee per course, meals will be provided and transportation will be available. High school registration opens Monday, March 9.

IGNITE Middle School Academy: For middle school students, this project-based program will prepare students for courses they will take next school year. IGNITE will operate at six regional sites on Monday–Thursday, with meals and transportation available. Registration will be on ParentVue.

Local School Programs: High schools may offer courses to help students meet academic requirements and recover credits.

Extended School Year (ESY) for Students with Disabilities: ESY services are federally mandated for some students with disabilities who require support beyond the traditional school year. Contact your child’s case manager for more information.

There will also be summer programs available for students enrolled in Title I schools. There is no cost; the focus will be on literacy, math, science, social studies and well-being.
