The Bilingual Assessment Team

The Bilingual Assessment Team (BAT) is a multilingual unit within the Department of Psychological Services that collaborates with school-based individualized Education Program (IEP) teams to provide consultation, assessment, and professional learning to support MCPS K-12 Emergent Multilingual Learners (EMLs) who speak Amharic, Chinese, French, Pashto/Pushto, Persian Dari, Portuguese, Spanish, or Vietnamese who are suspected of having an educational disability; MCPS K-2 EMLs who receive special education services as result of a Developmental Delay, have not had a previous bilingual assessment, and need to be re-evaluated prior to their 8th birthday; and K-12 Private/Parochial School Spanish-speaking students identified as home or mixed language dominant.

School-based IEP teams are invited to contact the BAT Instructional Assessment Specialist and Psychologist assigned to their schools for consultation throughout the IEP process.
