Olney Elementary School Counseling Program 2026-2027
Dear Families,
Welcome to a new school year! My name is Susan Yore. I am thrilled to have joined Olney Elementary School this year as the School Counselor! For more than 20 years, I have had the privilege of serving as a school counselor and educator in MCPS. I am passionate about my role in working with students, families, school staff and the community.
I am excited to partner with you to support your child’s academic, social-emotional, and career development. The school counseling program is designed to help every student feel supported, connected, and prepared for success both in school and beyond. As the counselor I am here to support ALL students! I want each child to feel safe, welcome, seen, heard, and valued for who they are as a special and unique individual.
Throughout the school year, I will work with students individually, in small groups, and through classroom and school-wide activities. Students will have opportunities to develop important skills such as:
● Building positive relationships and friendships
● Managing emotions and coping with challenges
● Developing problem-solving and decision-making skills
● Setting academic and personal goals
● Developing positive study and organizational habits
● Exploring various careers
● Building confidence, resilience, and self-advocacy skills
I am also available to provide support when students are experiencing academic, social, emotional, or personal challenges. When additional support is needed, I can help connect families with appropriate school and community resources.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me to ask questions, and share information that may help me better support your child. I look forward to working with you and your child to make it a successful and positive school year!
Warmly,
Susan Yore
