Advanced Placement (AP) Exams
REGISTRATION (DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 1, 2025)
- Students sitting in courses designated “AP” are required to join the My AP Classroom for each AP course in which they are enrolled. By joining the portal, students have access to College Board-created materials, and are automatically registered for the AP exam. AP teachers provided instructions in class.
- Students not sitting in an AP class, but who still wish to take an AP exam, must enroll in My AP Classroom using the appropriate self-study join code.
- Students are reminded to enter information very carefully. Be sure to enter the student’s MCPS ID number. Use a personal e-mail address to register so you may access score reports after graduation.
- The expectation is that if a student is sitting in an AP class, an AP exam is being ordered for them and they are expected to take the AP exam. MCPS is making an investment in student success.
- Students sitting in AP courses who do not want to take the corresponding AP exam should complete the RMHS AP Exam Opt Out Form and return it to room 200.
PAYMENT (DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 10, 2025)
MCPS is paying for AP exams for students ENROLLED in the corresponding AP course. This information applies to students who are self-studying for an AP exam:
- AP exams will cost $104 this year.
- AP exam fees will be posted to the student’s School Cash Online account. Here are the directions for using School Cash Online. There is a lag time between when a student registers for an exam and when the fee posts to the account.
- AP exams paid for after November 10, 2025 but before March 15, 2026 will incur a $40 late order fee in addition to the exam fee.
- If a student decides after the November ordering deadline not to take an exam that was ordered, the charge is $40 per exam instead of the full exam fee. This includes students who drop the course after the November deadline. The $40 fee applies to any unused or canceled exam, including an exam ordered for a student who qualifies for a College Board fee reduction. It’s important to tell the AP coordinator if a student decides not to take an exam as soon as possible.
- The fee waiver price of $56/exam will be applied to students who completed this school year’s Household Application for Free and Reduced-price Meals at https://www.myschoolapps.com/Application
ADDITIONAL AP EXAM INFORMATION
- Students will be charged a $40 fee for the following scenarios:
- Late registrations
- Cancelling an exam
- Rescheduling an exam for the late-testing window
- Not being present to take the exam
- Students with documented disabilities may be eligible for accommodations for AP exams. Students must be approved for accommodations by the College Board Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD). Parents and students should check with their counselor to make sure their accommodations are in place for the AP exam(s). If accommodations have not yet been approved, the deadline for the request with the College Board is January 15, 2026.
