Student Rights & Responsibilities

In order to ensure a safe, productive, and positive learning environment, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) publishes several handbooks to help students, parents/guardians, and staff understand the Montgomery County Board of Education's core values and commitments; students' rights; school rules; expectations for student conduct; and the possible consequences for violating the rules.  You can access them by clicking the button below.

Student Privacy

Schools provide directory information for public listings such as honor roll, awards, and other notices in the newspaper or on the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) website.  If you do not want your school to release your directory information, complete the form below and return this notice to your school by September 11, 2026.

Safe Schools Maryland (SSMD)

The Safe Schools Maryland (SSMD) anonymous reporting system is operated by the Maryland Center for School Safety and made available to all Maryland schools. SSMD allows anyone; students, caregivers, school staff, community members, to easily share information about a safety concern at any school, and remain totally anonymous.
