English Language Development
Welcome from the Highland's English Language Development (ELD) team! We are Alison Clarke-Pentz (grades 4 and 5), Sonya Vasilios (grades K and 1), and Holly Warner (grades 2 and 3).
We each work with two grade levels to support the students and the teachers. We spend a majority of our time working with students whose English language proficiency is in the entering level. We provide them with reading, vocabulary and grammar lessons that are appropriate to their language abilities.
We also meet with teachers each week to discuss helpful strategies and ideas for them to use in their daily lessons to support all Emergent Multilingual Learners. Throughout the year, we will provide families with helpful strategies and links that they can use at home to help their child with their English language development. We are looking forward to a new school year!
¡Les damos la bienvenida de parte del equipo de Desarrollo del Idioma Inglés (ELD) de Highland! Somos Alison Clarke-Pentz (grados 4 y 5), Sonya Vasilios (grados K y 1) y Holly Warner (grados 2 y 3).
Cada una de nosotras trabaja con dos niveles de grado para apoyar tanto a los estudiantes como a los maestros. Dedicamos la mayor parte de nuestro tiempo a trabajar con estudiantes cuyo nivel de dominio del inglés se encuentra en la etapa inicial (*entering level*). Les impartimos lecciones de lectura, vocabulario y gramática adecuadas a sus capacidades lingüísticas.
También nos reunimos semanalmente con los maestros para analizar estrategias e ideas útiles que puedan aplicar en sus clases diarias para apoyar a todos los estudiantes multilingües emergentes. A lo largo del año, proporcionaremos a las familias estrategias y enlaces útiles que podrán utilizar en casa para ayudar a sus hijos en el desarrollo del idioma inglés. ¡Esperamos con ilusión este nuevo año escolar!
